When I review resumes that potential clients ask me to evaluate, I often see “one size fits all” objective statements or mundane profiles but no information that sets the candidate apart from millions of others who do similar work. Employers today are selective and will wait to get the perfect candidate (e.g., the purple squirrel) – a one-of-a-kind applicant that meets all the job criteria and then some. When an employer has many candidates that meet minimum qualifications, then cultural fit and/or added strengths no other candidate has will make you the clear choice.

Communicating your unique value (brand) in words that resonate with employers and narrowing your search to those companies that need what you have to offer set you apart from the crowd and dramatically increase your likelihood of finding an opportunity that meets purpose and passion.
