Personal branding has become essential for savvy candidates with lofty career aspirations. A couple of targeted questions I ask clients as part of my interview process include: “What separates you from run of the mill? When you look back over your career, what do you differently or better than everyone else you know that has held similar roles?”
These questions often spark thoughtful responses that help me to craft meaningful taglines that encapsulate a candidate’s brand, provide competitive distinction and spark a recruiter’s interest in learning more.
Want do you want to be known for and how do you want to be perceived by a potential employer? You might start by taking a careful look at the LinkedIn profiles of your industry competitors . . . which of those reflect a strong, positive brand identity?
You want your brand to be consistent across all your personal marketing materials, including your LinkedIn profile. If your brand isn’t yet defined, then perhaps its time to consider working with an expert who knows how to position you for the next step up.
