I’m often asked to review resumes candidates have developed for themselves and have noticed a disturbing trend – photos! Employers of any size must comply with EEO laws, so photos on resumes are absolutely taboo unless you’re

  • a model or
  • an actor.

Sure, LinkedIn features photos, so recruiters can easily see who you are there, but job applications are different. If you want to make the most of your job search efforts, you’ll want to avoid putting anything on your resume that will make it easy for a prospective employer to discriminate against you and/or get into hot water with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

If you’re applying for work overseas, the rules are different. In the U.S., no photo!
